CUEVAS MEDEK EXERCISE THERAPY (CME THERAPY)

Cuevas Medek Exercises is a psychomotor therapy based on dynamic challenging exercises, manually applied for children affected on their developmental motor functions. This therapy provides very concrete guidelines to stimulate children in a total safe way, starting from three months of age to many years after birth.

How CME Therapy works?

Psychomotor Therapy Approach

The fundamental assumption of CME is that developmentally compromised infants need to reinforce their natural recovery potential and activate their genetic code that could lead them into motor freedom. This underlying property of the Central Nervous System, continues to propel the developmental process even after the sequelae are established. This therapy is commonly used in the management of conditions like cerebral palsy, developmental delays, and neuromuscular disorders.

It is designed to improve muscle strength, posture, balance, and overall functional movement. The therapy focuses on integrating movement patterns that are essential for developing motor coordination, increasing physical independence, and enhancing neurological development.

Early intervention is crucial, as muscles can weaken due to inactivity, making treatment more challenging over time. Equally vital to the success of therapy is the active involvement of parents or caregivers, who, after receiving proper guidance, play an essential role in continuing the child’s exercises at home.

This therapy can be applied to children from the age of 3 months until they achieve and control independent walking. Because the CME practitioner needs to expose the infant to the influence of gravity, by providing progressive distal support, the use of this therapy may be limited by the child’s size and weight.

The final level of motor independence achieved by the child will depend on the following:

1) The early recognition of the motor developmental abnormality.

2) The existence of brain’s recovery potential.

3) The timely application of a reliable approach of motor therapy.

4) The constant execution of appropriate exercise until achieve total motor control.

Intensive CME Therapy

Duration: 2-3 hours, 5 days a week for 2-3 weeks

Throughout the program, we work closely with parents to support their child in achieving the goals set at the start of therapy.

An initial assessment is required to determine if Intensive CME Therapy is suitable for your child and to identify the most appropriate duration and intensity for their needs.

This approach helps strengthen muscles, improve muscle tone and balance, and may enable the achievement of new developmental milestones, depending on your child’s individual abilities.

Contact us today to schedule an assessment and learn how we can support your child’s journey toward greater independence and mobility.
